Objective: This study aimed to compare the degree of pain between two types of orthodontic brackets {Conventional brackets - Low friction brackets (Synergy)} during leveling and alignment stage.
Materials and Methods: The study sample consisted of 10 patients, aged 16-24. The patients were divided into two groups. 0.022 slot brackets were applied to the maxilla from American Orthodontics and Rocky Mountain Orthodontics. NiTi wires (0.12 – 0.14 – 0.16 – 0.18) were used, respectively. The pain index was studied during 4 time periods: (immediately after applying the brackets and elastic – after one hour – after 24 hours – after one week), using the visual analogue scale (VAS). All patients were followed up weekly until the end of the alignment stage.
Results: There were no statistically significant differences in the studied variable between the two groups (P > 0.05).
Conclusions: Both conventional and low-friction brackets produce the same average pain score in patients.
