Abstract

healing abutment in conditioning soft tissues around dental implants.

Materials and Methods: The study sample included twenty implants that were applied to ten patients attending the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the Faculty of Dentistry at Tishreen University and the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Tishreen University Hospital in the period between 2021-2023 AD, who had one or several teeth missing, as Patients were selected after ensuring that they met the entry criteria and obtaining informed consent from them. The sample was then divided into two groups:

Group C: The control group included ten implants that received the standard healing abutment.

Group T: The experimental group included ten implants that received a healing abutment manufactured according to the case.

All implants were performed using the two-stage surgical technique, where the implants were placed and the healing period was waited for 3 months in the lower jaw and 4 months in the upper jaw. In the second surgical stage, healing abutments were placed according to the group. Then a clinical examination was conducted to evaluate the soft tissues using the FIPS scale and the results were compared between the two groups.

Results: The results showed that there were statistically significant differences when comparing FIPS values ​​between the two groups after 6 months in favor of customized healing abutment.

Conclusions: Within the limits of this study, we conclude that the use of a customized healing abutment contributed to improving the cosmetic and functional aspect of the soft tissues around dental.
