Evaluation of the effectiveness of local Tramadol in pain relieving following surgical removal of impacted lower third molars
Keywords:
Impacted molars, tramadol hydrochloride, pain, Visual Analog Scale (VAS)Abstract
Aim:To investigate the local analgesic and anesthetic effect of applying tramadol via injection during the surgical extraction of impacted lower third molars..
Material and methods:
- Study Type: A prospective, randomized, controlled, and blinded (to the patient) study.
- Study Sample: The research was conducted on 34 cases involving 17 patients who visited the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the Faculty of Dentistry, Tishreen University, and patients visiting the minor surgery and dental implant clinic at Tishreen University Hospital in Latakia. The patients' ages ranged between 18 and 25 years, and they required surgical extraction of bilateral, symmetrical impacted third molars. The study sample was divided into two groups using a dice method (experimental group and control group).
- Experimental Group: A local injection of 100 mg tramadol (50 mg vestibularly and 50 mg lingually for the impacted molar to be extracted) will be administered before the surgical procedure.
Control Group: The surgery was performed in the conventional manner with an injection of physiological saline as a placebo and without any local analgesic measures.
Conclusion:
The local application of tramadol provides good analgesic results during the first hour after the surgical extraction of impacted lower third molars and is considered an effective method to reduce post-operative pain. The local application of tramadol in conjunction with lidocaine during the surgical extraction of impacted lower third molars increases the duration of anesthesia
