This study tries to show the effect of tonsillectomy on the patients' health based on the symptoms of which they complained prior to surgery and on their personal assessment of the development of these symptoms following surgery.
The study examines the cases of 100 patients who had chronic tonsillitis with or without complications resulting from this illness. They had undergone tonsillectomy and were observed during a period ranging between a year and four years, during which we assessed the changes that occurred in the symptoms of which they complained before surgery.
The study concludes that:
- 65 % of the patients improved after surgery, both in terms of their health and the quality of their lives.
- 22 % of the patients did not have any noticeable change following the surgery.
- 13 % of the patients said that their health deteriorated following the surgery.
- Best results (70 %) were reported by the patients whose chronic tonsillitis was complicated by other health problems related to their kidneys, joints ,Rheumatism and others.
- Moreover, it was found that the percentage of the patients satisfied with surgery decreased from 69% in the first year to 60% after four years.
