Abstract
Vital pulpotomy using Calcium Hydroxide is considered the best technique to preserve the vitality of radicular pulp in young permanent pulpally affected teeth. Marginal leakage is mostly responsible for technique failure. Recently a new compound -PULPOTEC®- was marketed to be used as a substitute for Calcium Hydroxide.
The aim of this study is to evaluate clinically and radiographically the performance of this compound when used as a pulp dressing in vital pulpotomy on young permanent teeth.
The study sample included 50 young permanent teeth, in 34 patients (mean age 7.7-years) received vital pulpotomy using PULPOTEC® and followed up for thirty six months interval, during which the root development and apex closure were observed clinically and radiographically. The results showed a success rate of 92%, the root developed and the apices closed in 46 teeth out of 50.
