Abstract
- Hypertension is a common disease world-wide. It involves both sexes, all ages, and its incidence increases proportionally with age.
- Our study included 60 patients from those who were admitted to AL-ASSAD university hospital (LATTAKIA) from 24/1/2006 to 28/3/2007. They were diagnosed as hypertensive patients.
- The female patients were 35 (58%) and the male ones 25 (42%).
- We divided our patients into two groups, according to the Lidocaine medication before the intubation.
Group A account 30 patients which received Lidocaine before intubation
Group B accounts 30 patients which did not receive Lidocaine before intubation.
- We have evaluated the severity of the hypertensive reaction and dysarrhythmias induced by the intubation in the hypertensive patients upon the intubation and after 5 minutes of induction.
- The result of our study was that the use of lidocaine before intubation in the hypertensive patients caused reduction of the hypertensive reactions and dysarrhythmias induced by the intubation.
